Still on the job hunt, there has been absolutely no work to the point that even temp agencies are saying that it's rough at the moment. In the meantime I've been trying a couple new drinks (largely due to the fact that all cases of modelo negra and guinness were sold out) The general outlook on the drinks has been quite bleak but I've held off on rating them as I thought "surely they will grow on me if I give them a chance" They have not.
Two Hearted IPA, American IPA, I started with this first purely for the fish design it had. Hated it, it's a little bitter but mainly theres this terrible 'high note' in the flavor that I can only assume to be the hops, along with a very sweet finish. Was not a fan of the taste nor smell, but I found drinking it from the can compared to pouring it out resulted in it somehow being more tolerable.
Pacifico Clara, Mexican Lager, it's alright. A little sweet, hoppier than I remember the modelo especial, wouldnt be my first choice but I wouldn't mind drinking it at all.
Guinness 0.0, Non-alcoholic, disappointingly dogshit. somewhat of a similar (if not watered down) taste to the real thing but everything else is atrocious, genuinely could not manage to finish it and I ended up having to pour it which I almost never do for any sort of drink. It's so thin that it's like guinness flavored water but with a sickening chemical sweetness and no carbonation. Had high hopes as I've heard much praise for it as a non-alcoholic option but unfortunately I would never buy again nor would I ever willingly drink it. I feel the heineken 0.0 was probably closer to the real thing compared to this.
Marshall This land Lager, Helles Lager, odd, somewhat similar in taste to the IPA but less bitter and more importantly less sweet. Still has a very hoppy flavor which I am not personally a fan of, but I'll deal with it. Not huge on it but it is certainly drinkable, I'm actually drinking one as I write this! (did not want to waste the rest of the modelos I have)
Coop Ale Works DNR, Belgian Dark Ale, genuinely one of the worst fucking concoctions I have ever tasted. If it were not 10% ABV I would have poured it out along with the 0.0 guinness. It's just so fucking sweet, it's nothing but sweet, I almost can't taste anything but sweet. It's like drinking a malty version of a mikes harder lemonade. I had such high hopes for it as I love darker drinks but jesus christ. I have only had one and I genuinely could not note anything but pure rancid fruit sweetness and a slight vinegar-esque smell, felt like shit after drinking.
Anthem uroboros stout, American Stout, another I was very excited to try, pretty disappointing. It's not the worst but once again it's just too sweet. (A reoccuring theme) When I originally tried this I was already quite drunk so my notes on it are somewhat sparse, but most notably it has an incredibly strong coffee/chocolate flavor. I'm not massive on the flavor largely due to that sweetness, but otherwise it's alright I guess.
The largest theme throughout the newer drinks was that they all had this sweetness to them, and I like sweet things normally but something about sweet beer specifically is just sickening to taste. Theres a few more I wish to try in the future but I am a bit weary about this sweet trend somewhat. These have more closely been "drink to get drunk" beers so far rather than "drink for the taste" like some from the first batch.
